Apple Unfolds First Foldable iPhone Duo

Apple has unveiled its first-ever foldable smartphone, the iPhone Duo, marking a significant entry into the evolving mobile market. This new device boasts a unique book-like design, opening to reveal a spacious 7.6-inch inner display, effectively doubling as a tablet while still pocketable. A standout feature is the reintroduction of the Touch ID fingerprint scanner, a technology that has been absent from iPhones for nearly a decade, likely due to design constraints with dual screens.

The iPhone Duo, priced starting at $1,999, is constructed with Grade 5 titanium and Ceramic Shield coating for durability. It introduces multitasking capabilities, allowing apps to run side-by-side, and offers enhanced viewing experiences with its adaptable design. Powered by the A20 Pro chipset and a C2 cellular modem, it supports eSIM only and promises substantial battery life. The device also features dual rear cameras and an under-display FaceTime camera.

Alongside the foldable, Apple announced the iPhone 18 Pro, featuring an A20 Pro chip and an improved Dynamic Island. This model offers three rear cameras, a variable aperture, and a 36-hour video playback battery life for the Pro and 45 hours for the Pro Max. The new Apple Watch Series 12 and Ultra 4 were also revealed, focusing on enhanced health tracking and performance with new S-series chips. Additionally, new AirPods 5 were introduced with improved noise cancellation and translation features.

These new products will run on iOS 27, which includes significant AI upgrades for Siri, enhanced photo editing capabilities, and parental controls. The event, held in Cupertino, California, was hosted by new Apple chief John Ternus. This launch is particularly significant as it approaches the 20-year anniversary of the original iPhone and marks a new leadership era for the company under Ternus, following Tim Cook's transition to Executive Chairman.
