Apple has unveiled its most advanced monitor to date, the 27-inch Studio Display XDR, aimed at Mac-wielding content creators. This 5K IPS LCD display features a miniLED backlight with 2,304 dimming zones, achieving 1,000 nits sustained brightness and a 2,000-nit peak for HDR content. It offers a super-crisp, vivid picture with wide viewing angles and factory-calibrated P3 and Adobe RGB gamuts.
Beyond its visual prowess, the Studio Display XDR integrates a six-speaker audio system, three studio-quality microphones, and a 12MP webcam supporting Apple's Centre Stage and Desk View technologies. A built-in hub provides two Thunderbolt 5 ports and two USB-C ports, capable of delivering up to 140W of power for a streamlined single-cable connection to compatible Macs. The display is powered by Apple's A19 Pro chip.
Starting at £2,599, the Studio Display XDR positions itself in the professional market. Its advanced features, including a 120Hz adaptive refresh rate and optional nano-texture coating for glare reduction, cater to demanding workflows in video editing and color grading. While it may not replace ultra-high-end reference monitors, it represents a significant upgrade for many Mac-based content creators seeking a high-quality, plug-and-play display.
