Apple Pushes Critical Security Alert to iPhones
29 Mar
Summary
- Apple is issuing critical software update alerts to vulnerable iPhones.
- The vulnerability affects iOS 13 up to iOS 17.2.1 and iPadOS versions.
- Users on older iPhones may need to upgrade or enable Lockdown Mode.

Apple has escalated its efforts to protect users by pushing critical software alerts directly to the lock screens of iPhones with outdated iOS versions. This move highlights the company's concern over targeted attacks exploiting vulnerabilities in older operating systems.
The alerts specifically warn about attacks using web links created through exploits like Coruna and DarkSword, which can compromise devices running iOS 13 up to iOS 17.2.1, as well as equivalent iPadOS versions.
To ensure protection, users must update their devices via General > Software Update. Versions from iOS 15 onwards are now safeguarded against these threats. iPhones as old as the iPhone 6S (2015) are compatible with iOS 15.
For those still using iOS 13 or iOS 14, upgrading to at least iOS 15 is crucial. Devices older than 2015 may be at significant risk, as no further fixes are planned for these very old software versions. Apple suggests enabling Lockdown Mode on iOS 16 and later for enhanced security if updating is not possible.
