Summary
- Apple has retired more than a dozen devices, some only two years old.
- New iPhone 17e offers double storage at the same price as iPhone 16e.
- Older Studio Display and Pro Display XDR models are now discontinued.

Apple has recently discontinued more than a dozen of its devices, a common strategy that occurs with the introduction of new technology. This latest batch of retired gadgets includes several models that were only two years old, such as the iPhone 16e, M3 iPad Air, and M4 MacBook Air. Several MacBook Pro configurations and the Mac Studio with an M3 Ultra chip have also been removed from the active lineup.
The company's display offerings have also seen changes, with the Studio Display and the premium Pro Display XDR now discontinued. Accessories for the Pro Display XDR, including its stand and VESA mount adapter, are also no longer available. This strategic move aims to streamline Apple's product offerings and focus on newer, higher-performance devices.
The newly announced iPhone 17e, launched on March 3, 2026, maintains the $599 price point of the previous budget model but doubles the storage. Kaiann Drance, Apple's VP of Worldwide iPhone Product Marketing, highlighted the iPhone 17e's powerful performance, enhanced durability, and improved camera system as key selling points for customers seeking long-lasting value.
