AirPods with Cameras: Apple's Next Big Move?
27 Aug
Summary
- New AirPods 5 models may launch soon with ANC and without.
- Rumored AirPods with cameras could debut for AI vision.
- Potential price increases loom due to global memory crisis.
Apple is anticipated to host a special event on September 9, with expectations high for new iPhone 18 models. However, the "Surprise and shine" event may also feature new AirPods.
Mark Gurman reports that two AirPods 5 models are likely, one with active noise cancellation and one without, suggesting an iterative update. Details on differences from the AirPods 4 remain scarce, and a refresh for AirPods Pro 3 is not immediately expected.
A more significant potential reveal is AirPods equipped with cameras. These devices, previously hinted at, could utilize cameras for AI-driven visual assistance, similar to smart glasses, rather than image capture. This feature is expected to focus on "Visual Intelligence and AI assistants."
Discussions around branding suggest these could be named AirPods Ultra or AirPods Pro, with recent data pointing towards AirPods Pro branding. Additionally, the persistent global memory crisis may influence pricing, potentially leading to increased costs for new audio products in 2026.
