Anthropic Adds Voice Mode to AI Coder
4 Mar
Summary
- Voice Mode is now gradually rolling out to Claude Code users.
- Users can activate voice mode by typing /voice and speaking commands.
- Claude Code's revenue surpassed $2.5 billion in February.

Anthropic has begun a phased rollout of Voice Mode for Claude Code, its AI coding assistant. This new feature allows developers to interact with the tool using spoken commands, aiming to create more conversational and hands-free coding experiences. The activation is initiated by typing '/voice', after which users can issue commands such as 'refactor the authentication middleware.'
This move follows Anthropic's launch of Voice Mode for its general Claude chatbot in May. The AI coding assistant market is highly competitive, featuring rivals like GitHub Copilot and OpenAI. However, Claude Code has shown strong adoption, reporting over $2.5 billion in run-rate revenue as of February 2026, and a doubling of weekly active users since January.
Furthermore, Claude's mobile app has experienced a surge in user growth, notably after the company declined to allow the Department of Defense to use its AI for surveillance or autonomous weapons. This stance led the app to top the U.S. App Store charts, surpassing ChatGPT.
