AI Models Restricted, Then Partially Restored by US Government
27 Jun
Summary
- US government allows limited redeployment of Mythos 5 to critical infrastructure organizations.
- Access to Mythos and Fable was suspended on June 12 due to security concerns.
- Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick cited safeguards for the partial access decision.

Access to Anthropic's advanced AI models, Mythos 5 and Fable 5, is being partially reinstated for a select group of US organizations. The US government has granted Anthropic permission to redeploy Mythos 5 to entities responsible for operating and defending critical infrastructure.
This development follows an earlier suspension of all customer access on June 12. The blockade was enacted after warnings from companies like Amazon about potential misuse by bad actors and concerns that a China-linked group had accessed Mythos 5. The government initially mandated the suspension of foreign nationals' access to these models.
Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick has now determined that sufficient safeguards are in place for trusted partners. He indicated that Anthropic has committed to working with the government on protocols and standards for its AI releases. While Mythos 5's access is resuming for over 100 institutions, Anthropic is also in discussions regarding the potential return of Fable 5.
