Android Auto Gets Secret Work Mode Tile
2 Nov
Summary
- Android Auto may get a Work Mode tile for employer-managed apps.
- A hidden tile suggests improved Work Profile controls for drivers.
- Integration challenges exist for video conferencing apps in Work Profiles.
A recently discovered Work Mode tile within Android Auto suggests Google may be developing enhanced controls for employer-managed applications. This hidden feature, appearing as a briefcase icon, indicates potential future integration of Work Profiles, which keep work apps separate from personal ones.
While this could improve usability for work-related tasks like joining calls, current limitations exist. Video conferencing apps like Microsoft Teams and Google Meet face restrictions when installed within a Work Profile, impacting their functionality on Android Auto.
Currently, users with Work Profiles can pause work apps and notifications manually via the app drawer or quick settings. The experimental Work Mode tile's full capabilities are unconfirmed, as it has not been shown to pause notifications or launch work apps directly.
