Android Auto Widgets Spotted: A Big Upgrade

Android Auto users are anticipating a major enhancement as evidence suggests the upcoming arrival of widgets. These widgets, designed to mirror those found on smartphone home screens, have been discovered within the latest version of the Android Auto application.

This new feature will introduce a 'Car widgets' option in the settings, leading to a widget picker similar to the one on phones. While the exact launch date remains unconfirmed, the discovery of these elements implies a near-future release. Google's upcoming Google I/O event on May 19-20, 2026, is a plausible time for an official announcement.

Users can expect a range of widgets, from countdown timers to calendar previews and fitness trackers. The implementation on limited car display space, especially during navigation with Google Maps, will be interesting to observe. The success of this feature hinges on a seamless integration that avoids clunky user experiences or persistent bugs.
