At CES, AMD announced the Ryzen 7 9850X3D processor, an enhanced version of its popular gaming CPU. This new chip maintains the 8-core/16-thread configuration but achieves higher boost clocks of 5.6GHz, a 400MHz increase over the 9800X3D, while keeping a 120-watt TDP. AMD detailed that this improved binning offers approximately a 7% performance uplift in gaming scenarios.
The company further emphasized its competitive edge by comparing the 9850X3D to Intel's Core Ultra 9 285K. AMD claims an average uplift of 27% across numerous games and highlights substantial leads, such as being 60% faster in Baldur's Gate 3. These gains are particularly noticeable in esports titles, though AAA games may see less dramatic improvements.
The Ryzen 7 9850X3D is slated for a first-quarter 2026 launch, with pricing and exact availability details to be revealed closer to its release. AMD will continue to offer the 9800X3D alongside the new model, maintaining the 9950X3D as its top-tier flagship.
