Amazon has unveiled an advanced version of its Proteus robot, now equipped with artificial intelligence that enables it to understand and execute tasks assigned through conversational language. Employees can simply tell the robot what needs to be done, and it will autonomously manage prioritization, routing, and timing.
This upgrade signifies a major shift from the previous iteration, which required technical commands. The enhanced Proteus will operate across more sections of Amazon's fulfillment centers, handling the movement of diverse items and containers, including to delivery sites.
The new Proteus robots are slated for a pilot phase in Amazon's labs. Following successful testing, the company intends to deploy them in Europe during the first half of 2027.
This development is part of a larger €10 billion investment by Amazon to modernize its European fulfillment operations, a move that Amazon states will also create 25,000 new jobs across the region.
