Amazon ditches interviews for AI hiring

Amazon has introduced new AI-powered software named Connect Talent, designed to automate and expedite its mass hiring processes, particularly for seasonal needs. This system eliminates the traditional face-to-face job interview by conducting AI-led interviews continuously, preparing notes for recruiters without human intervention. This move aims to streamline the recruitment of hundreds of thousands of workers needed annually for peak periods like the holiday rush.

Alongside hiring innovations, Amazon also launched Connect Decisions, a tool focused on analyzing data for supply chain planning and purchasing. This new offering is informed by Amazon's own vast experience managing its extensive supply chain and warehouse network. The company is also promoting its "humorphism" design philosophy for AI, aiming to make artificial intelligence more human-like and adaptable to how people work.

These advancements come as Amazon, along with other major tech firms like Alphabet, is heavily investing in autonomous AI software, often referred to as "agents." These agents are capable of running processes with minimal human oversight, a rapidly developing field that also raises questions about safety and control. Amazon's embrace of AI for efficiency has also been linked to its recent corporate job reductions.
