In a move that could reshape the entertainment landscape, CenterStage Technologies, an offshoot of Boies Schiller Entertainment, is preparing to launch an AI-powered, personalized storytelling platform aimed at children. The company, co-founded by high-profile attorney David Boies and Zack Schiller, plans to let kids create "kid-safe stories" featuring popular characters in their own adventures.
CenterStage has already inked intellectual property deals with PBS and the children's book franchise Pete the Cat, and is in discussions with a major Hollywood studio and other family-oriented brands. The platform is designed to "allow personalization at scale, and let the consumer star in and direct their own productions," according to Schiller.
Recognizing the industry's concerns about the impact of generative AI on creative livelihoods, CenterStage has implemented safeguards to protect intellectual property rights. The company says its characters, concepts, and stories are "completely protected" with "highly controlled" training environments, recursive safety protocols, and reinforcement learning with human and AI feedback.
"We are committed to respecting the intellectual property rights of others and to protecting our own intellectual property," Boies says. The platform will also have guardrails in place to ensure the content remains kid-safe, with Schiller noting that "we don't want Pete the Cat to become Felix the Cat."
