Khosla: AI Can Serve Every Indian via Aadhaar System
19 Feb
Summary
- AI tutors, doctors, and agronomists could be offered to all Indians.
- Services would be integrated into the Aadhaar and UPI ecosystems.
- Focus on impactful AI applications for the bottom half of the population.

Venture capitalist Vinod Khosla has outlined a plan to deliver AI-powered services, including tutors, doctors, and agronomy experts, to every Indian within the next two years. Khosla proposes embedding these services within the Aadhaar ecosystem, leveraging the existing identity-based system and a UPI-like service layer. He stressed the importance of focusing AI applications on the "bottom half of the population" to achieve transformative national impact.
Khosla highlighted education, healthcare, and agriculture as key areas for AI intervention. AI tutors, he suggested, could personalize learning and enhance platforms like DIKSHA. For healthcare, AI could provide round-the-clock primary care expertise, addressing rising demand and multiplying limited doctor resources. In agriculture, AI could offer farmers, regardless of land size, access to "PhD-level agronomists."
These large-scale impact services, achievable with significant cost savings, could dramatically scale education, healthcare, and agronomy. Khosla warned that failing to implement these AI-driven solutions represents a massive opportunity loss for India, particularly for those most in need.
