AI Fuels Evolving Supply Chain Cyberattacks

Supply chain attacks, once primarily a corporate IT issue, have become a significant threat to consumers, exacerbated by the integration of Artificial Intelligence. Hackers are increasingly targeting vendors and partners as a less direct route to compromise larger organizations, exploiting weaker links in the digital chain to steal sensitive information.

This summer alone saw a major breach involving terabytes of data from top global corporations, including Nvidia, Samsung, and Microsoft, through an open-source AI tool. The attack compromised credentials, secrets, and keys belonging to these major businesses.

Consumers are also directly impacted. Valve warned Steam users in Europe about a distributor's hack, while modular PC maker Framework reported customer data loss due to an exploit of a data-hosting partner. The danger lies in the potential misuse of this stolen data for scam campaigns via text, email, or phone calls.
