Summary
- Perplexity's AI agents are blocked from placing Amazon orders.
- A judge found Perplexity's browser accessed accounts without authorization.
- Amazon accused Perplexity of intruding and concealing activities.

A federal judge has blocked Perplexity's web browser-based AI agents from placing orders on Amazon. US District Judge Maxine Chesney ruled on Monday that Perplexity's Comet browser accessed user accounts "without authorization" from Amazon, providing "strong evidence" of the violation. Amazon had filed a lawsuit against Perplexity in November, accusing the AI startup of repeatedly being asked to stop its agents from purchasing products for customers.
The retail giant further alleged that Perplexity "intruded" into its marketplace and user accounts through Comet's agentic shopping feature. This action allegedly violated computer fraud and abuse laws. Amazon also claimed Perplexity attempted to "conceal" its agentic activities by misrepresenting the Comet browser as Google Chrome, according to the lawsuit.
