AI Search Redefines Brand Discovery
18 Mar
Summary
- AI search answers are preferred by 80% for specificity.
- Educational content drives 80% of AI search citations.
- AI search users convert 3x more than traditional search users.

Generative Engine Optimization (GEO) platform ReSO's "State of Search Report" indicates AI-powered search is a significant driver of brand discovery, influencing buyer decisions before website visits. Eighty percent of respondents prefer AI answers for their specificity and context.
The report highlights a substantial shift in content citation within AI search. Educational content, including blogs (46%) and articles (33%), dominates AI-generated responses, making up nearly 80% of citations. Product pages, in contrast, represent a mere 5.4% of mentions.
While traditional click-through rates are below 1%, ReSO data shows users arriving via AI search are three times more likely to convert. This suggests increased buyer intent, despite the "crocodile mouth" effect of rising impressions and falling clicks.
ReSO's analysis also reveals fragmentation across AI search platforms, with ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews, and Perplexity citing different brands at varying volumes. This evolving landscape requires marketers to adapt their strategies to optimize for visibility within these new AI systems.
