AI Music Tools Raise $5.5M for Creative Sound Apps

A new venture, A Vinyl Bar in Shibuya, has successfully raised $5.5 million in pre-seed funding, signaling strong investor confidence in its approach to music creation. The startup, founded by Máuhan M Zonoozy, who previously led innovation at Spotify, aims to empower individuals to interact with and shape music in novel ways.

Zonoozy, who departed Spotify in 2024, envisioned a platform that moves beyond passive music consumption. The company's strategy involves releasing a series of small, experimental applications. These tools allow users to manipulate sound, create unique audio identities, remix existing tracks, and even generate music through various interactive methods.

Notable products include Speed Surfer, a Chrome extension modifying browser audio, and Usersound, which transforms letters into musical notes. The bop iOS app enables users to remix songs by adjusting instruments and effects, with export options for social media. A Vinyl Bar in Shibuya is also exploring multiplayer remixing features and has recently integrated prompt-based sound creation.

Despite the prevalence of AI, Zonoozy consciously opts to integrate AI judiciously, focusing on infrastructure and product development rather than solely on AI-driven content generation. The company believes that as AI makes music more abundant, human perspective, interaction, and participation become increasingly valuable. A "musical sandbox mixer" is planned for release this year, offering users a comprehensive environment for music creation.

This strategic direction, emphasizing user creativity and interaction, is a core differentiator for the startup in the rapidly evolving AI music landscape. The recent addition of prompt-based features enhances the tools' accessibility and creative potential.
