US Workers Demand AI Job Safety Over Tech Profits
18 Mar
Summary
- Nearly 80% fear government lacks a plan for AI job losses.
- 61% report their lives have become less affordable recently.
- Over half want tech firms financially responsible for AI job losses.

Americans increasingly perceive artificial intelligence as a threat to their employment and financial stability. A poll conducted earlier this month indicated that 61% of respondents feel their lives have become less affordable over the past year, with only 25% expressing confidence in their financial future. A significant majority, 64%, believe the system is "rigged for the elite."
Anxiety surrounding AI's rapid advancement is a major concern, with 57% stating it is progressing too quickly. Furthermore, 79% are worried the government lacks a plan to shield workers from job losses due to AI and automation. This fear extends to younger generations, as 79% worry about diminished opportunities for those entering the workforce.
The sentiment strongly favors worker protection, with 58% advocating for government prioritization of aid for AI-displaced workers, even at the expense of tech industry profits. More than half also believe tech companies should bear financial responsibility for jobs eliminated by AI. These concerns come as US layoff announcements reached nearly 1.2 million last year, with AI cited in thousands of cases.
