AI Infidelity Wrecking Marriages: Divorce Lawyers See Surge in "Chatbot Cheating" Cases
13 Nov
Summary
- Divorce lawyers see increase in cases of spouses cheating on partners with AI chatbots
- One case involves thousands spent on AI app "designed to mimic underage girls"
- AI relationships now considered a form of cheating by 60% of singles

According to divorce attorney Rebecca Palmer, the allure of AI-powered romances is causing a growing number of marital problems. As of November 13, 2025, Palmer's Orlando-based firm has worked with spouses who have gotten divorced or are going through a divorce due to a partner cheating with an AI chatbot.
One recent case involves a man who believed he was in a real relationship with a "sexy Latina baby girl" chatbot, spending thousands of dollars on a OnePay credit card and an AI app "designed to mimic underage girls." His wife of 14 years ultimately decided to end the marriage after discovering this.
The issue of AI infidelity is becoming more widespread, with around 60% of singles now considering AI relationships a form of cheating, according to recent surveys. As these virtual affairs cause irreparable rifts in relationships, a new legal frontier is emerging in family law, with an AI affair now grounds for divorce in some cases.
Palmer says one of her current cases involves a spouse's private information, such as bank accounts and social security numbers, being shared with a chatbot, "consuming the spouse's life and affecting career performance." With AI saturating every aspect of life, the impact on long-term human relationships is proving to be a complex challenge.
