As these virtual affairs cause irreparable rifts in relationships, a new legal frontier is emerging in family law, with an AI affair now grounds for divorce in some cases.
Palmer says one of her current cases involves a spouse's private information, such as bank accounts and social security numbers, being shared with a chatbot, "consuming the spouse's life and affecting career performance." With AI saturating every aspect of life, the impact on long-term human relationships is proving to be a complex challenge.
