Summary
- AI dashcams will monitor 40,000 km of Indian highways.
- High-resolution cameras will capture weekly road condition data.
- AI detects over 30 road defects, reducing manual inspections.

The National Highways Authority of India is implementing a significant upgrade to its road maintenance strategy with the deployment of AI-powered dashcam monitoring. This system will cover approximately 40,000 kilometers of national highways, utilizing advanced AI and Machine Learning for defect detection.
Specialized high-resolution cameras mounted on Route Patrol Vehicles (RPVs) will conduct weekly surveys. These cameras will capture detailed video and image data of road conditions, signage, and infrastructure. The AI system will then analyze this data to identify more than 30 types of defects, such as potholes, rutting, cracks, and faulty lighting.
