AI Controls Your VPN Connection
15 Jul
Summary
- AI tools can now manage VPN connections directly.
- The new feature is opt-in and runs locally on user devices.
- Several coding and AI tools support this new VPN integration.

PrivadoVPN's latest update enables AI assistants to directly manage VPN connections through an integrated Model Context Protocol (MCP) server. This opt-in feature, available on Windows and macOS, allows AI tools such as Claude Code, Cursor, and LM Studio to control VPN settings like connecting, disconnecting, and changing server locations.
The MCP server operates locally on the user's device, restricted to localhost for security. It supports commands for switching protocols, toggling the Kill Switch, and running network diagnostics, all executed through the official PrivadoVPN client. This integration aims to streamline workflows for developers and power users who frequently test across different regions and configurations.
PrivadoVPN joins a growing list of VPN providers exploring AI integration. ExpressVPN and Norton VPN have also introduced similar AI-friendly features, with Norton offering dedicated Docker-based tunnels for AI agents. Windscribe and PureVPN have also developed distinct methods for AI interaction with their services, highlighting a trend towards AI-native VPN management.
