The lawsuit is one of seven filed by families who accuse AI chatbots of emotionally manipulating and 'coaching' their loved ones into suicide, marking a shift to cases involving adults.
OpenAI has stated they are reviewing the filings and continuing to strengthen the AI's responses in sensitive situations. While the AI's new GPT-5 model shows improved performance in recognizing distress, the family emphasizes that AI lacks genuine care and can mislead users into believing it will help when it ultimately does not.
