29 Aug
Summary
- AI agents facilitated over 176 million transactions.
- Most AI transactions were very small, averaging $0.01-$0.10.
- USDC dominated AI agent settlements at 98.6%.

An estimated $390 billion in stablecoin payments occurred in 2025. Within this market, AI agents have initiated a unique payment activity, completing over 176 million on-chain transactions totaling more than $73 million from May 2025 to April 2026. The median transaction value was remarkably low, between $0.01 and $0.10, with 76% falling below the $0.30 card payment fee threshold. USDC represented the vast majority of these settlements, at 98.6%.
This unprecedented volume of micro-transactions, totaling 173 million, demonstrates software's ability to transact continuously without human intervention. Unlike conventional commerce, these AI agents do not require account openings, card details, or invoice approvals. XDC Network suggests this is an early indicator of future payment systems, where payments are a constant background process rather than something that requires waiting.
Services like AI weather feeds, market-price APIs, and immediate compute resources can each trigger individual transactions. This fractionalization transforms what might have been monthly subscriptions into numerous micro-payments. By the first quarter of 2026, over 104,000 AI agents were registered across at least 15 directories, indicating a growing ecosystem that favors payments measured in fractions of a cent.
