Adobe Reverses Course: Animate Stays, But No New Features
4 Feb
Summary
- Adobe will keep Animate in maintenance mode indefinitely.
- The software will receive security and bug fixes, but no new features.
- An original discontinuation announcement caused confusion and angst.

Adobe has announced a reversal regarding the discontinuation of its animation software, Adobe Animate. Originally slated for removal on March 1st, the application will now enter an indefinite maintenance mode.
This shift means Animate will continue to receive essential security and bug fixes, ensuring its availability for both new and existing users. Crucially, the software will not be updated with any new features. Adobe assured its user base, including individual, small business, and enterprise customers, that they will have access to their content regardless of the software's development status.
The company acknowledged that its initial announcement about discontinuing Animate caused considerable confusion and distress among its users. This has led to a commitment to ensure users can always access their content. Previous plans indicated a March 1st, 2027, deadline for non-enterprise users and March 1st, 2029, for enterprise users, but these are now superseded by the indefinite maintenance status.
