Aadhaar Mandatory for Vehicle Ownership Transfer
22 Jul
Summary
- Linking Aadhaar to Parivahan portal is now mandatory.
- New rule effective nationwide since July 15.
- Mismatched details may require RTO visit.

As of July 15, linking Aadhaar to the Parivahan portal has become a mandatory requirement across the country. This new regulation specifically impacts processes involving the change of vehicle ownership and the transfer of vehicles between different states.
The online system for ownership transfer will only permit completion if the Aadhaar information provided precisely matches the details on record. Should there be any divergence in the Aadhaar data compared to the Parivahan portal entries, applicants will encounter a roadblock.
To proceed in such cases, individuals must furnish their driving licence details. Furthermore, if inconsistencies persist between the vehicle's registration certificate (RC book) and the driving licence information, a personal visit to the relevant Regional Transport Office (RTO) will be necessary. At the RTO, applicants must present supporting documents to finalize the transfer process.
