BMW i7 Gets Major EV and Infotainment Upgrade

BMW has comprehensively updated its flagship i7 electric sedan for the 2027 model year, integrating the latest EV and infotainment technology. The electric powertrain receives a significant boost with a larger 112.5 kWh battery, an increase from the previous 101.7 kWh capacity. This enhancement aims to improve energy density and range efficiency, with BMW estimating between 344 to 362 miles on a full charge.

The i7's cabin features a radical redesign centered around BMW's new Panoramic iDrive screen and a trapezoidal infotainment touchscreen. Rear passengers benefit from an optional 31.3-inch 8K theater screen that folds down from the roof. Despite the increased processing power for infotainment, some lag was noted on the main screen. The vehicle also adopts a NACS charging port for broader compatibility.

While the updated i7 offers a refined and comfortable driving experience with a focus on a smooth, wafting ride, it is not positioned as an outright speed machine. Performance for the 60 xDrive model is 544 hp, achieving 0-60 mph in 4.6 seconds. DC fast-charging capabilities are boosted to 250 kW, allowing for a 10-80 percent charge in approximately 28 minutes. The updated powertrain is also designed for improved efficiency, with the domain controller working with route-planning software and AI simulations of the battery.

The new i7 range starts at $106,200 for the 50 xDrive and $124,700 for the 60 xDrive. These updates ensure the i7 remains competitive in the evolving luxury electric sedan market, blending advanced technology with BMW's signature comfort and style.
