An American device promising to compress four hours of sleep into a mere 20 minutes is launching in India on Saturday. The technology, developed over four decades by neuroscientist Patrick Porter, operates on the principle of brain entrainment. It delivers pulsed LED light through closed eyelids and binaural beats, aiming to guide brain activity into calmer alpha and theta wave states associated with relaxation and creative thinking.
BrainTap USA is collaborating with the Royal Family of Chettinad for its Indian debut at the Longevity Summit in Mumbai. This initiative brings the full BrainTap ecosystem, including an app, headset, and a measuring device called NeuroChek Go, to the country. The family's involvement stems from extensive research into wellness technologies, selecting BrainTap for its perceived efficacy.
The product will be available in India in three tiers: app-only, app with headset, and a premium package including the NeuroChek Go sensor. This device reportedly measures seven neurological parameters to recommend from the company's library of approximately 3,000 audio-visual sessions, covering sleep, focus, and recovery.
Founder Patrick Porter emphasizes reframing sleep as a trainable activity, not just hours spent in bed. He suggests the key is achieving sufficient deep and REM sleep architecture, which many people miss due to fragmented sleep cycles. BrainTap cites studies and clinical use, including with professional athletes, to support its claims of enhanced physical recovery and cognitive benefits.
