19 Feb
Summary
- Tony Munyonga executed a remarkable running catch.
- Pathum Nissanka was dismissed after scoring 62 off 41 balls.
- Sri Lanka's scoring rate dropped significantly after a strong start.

During a Group B clash at the R. Premadasa Stadium, Tony Munyonga produced a spectacular running catch to dismiss Sri Lanka's in-form batsman, Pathum Nissanka. Nissanka, who had scored a historic century against Australia previously, was looking in excellent form, reaching 62 runs off 41 balls with eight boundaries.
Sri Lanka had a rapid start, reaching 46 without loss in just four overs. However, after the fall of Kusal Perera, their scoring rate slowed considerably. Despite Nissanka reaching his fifty off 35 balls, he found limited support as Zimbabwe steadily took wickets. By the 17th over, Sri Lanka's score was 142/4, with Nissanka's aggressive innings cut short by Munyonga's exceptional fielding.
Graeme Cremer, a veteran spinner for Zimbabwe, was instrumental in breaking Nissanka's formidable innings. Nissanka attempted a reverse sweep on a length ball outside off, but the shot resulted in a top edge. The ball flew towards backward point, where Munyonga sprinted and completed a difficult over-the-shoulder catch.
