Young Skipper Leads Zimbabwe Against Afghanistan
5 Nov
Summary
- Brian Bennett, 22, named captain as Ngarava recovers from injury.
- Experienced batters Taylor and Ervine will join the squad.
- Test series will conclude Zimbabwe's UAE tour.

Zimbabwe will face Afghanistan in a two-match Test series in the United Arab Emirates, with 22-year-old Brian Bennett stepping in as captain. This leadership change comes as regular captain Richard Ngarava is still recovering from a back injury. The squad selection also marks the absence of fast bowler Tanaka Chivanga, who has been ruled out due to injury.
Bennett will lead a team that includes experienced batters Brendan Taylor and Craig Ervine, who stayed back in the UAE after the ODI tri-series. The squad features a mix of seasoned players and those earning recalls, including veteran leg-spinner Graeme Cremer. The pace attack will be spearheaded by Blessing Muzarabani, supported by other seamers and spin options.
The first Test is scheduled from November 5 to November 9, followed by the second from November 13 to November 17, both to be held at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium. This series marks the end of Zimbabwe's tour of the UAE, which has also included an ODI tri-series and a T20I series against Afghanistan.
