8 Mar
Summary
- Zane Smith penalized for unapproved underbody adjustments.
- Smith will start at the rear and perform a pass-thru penalty.
- Car chief ejected for the remainder of the race weekend.

Zane Smith and his No. 38 Front Row Motorsports team faced penalties after NASCAR Cup Series qualifying for Sunday's race at Phoenix Raceway. NASCAR officials detected unapproved adjustments to the underbody of the No. 38 Ford Mustang Dark Horse prior to practice.
Consequently, Smith, who qualified 24th, will be relegated to the rear of the field for the start of the Straight Talk Wireless 500. He will also be required to execute a pass-thru penalty on pit road once the race commences. The team's car chief, Will Norris, has been ejected from the event weekend.
These penalties arrive as Smith holds 14th in the championship standings, following strong finishes in the season's opening races. Despite the setback, Smith has demonstrated potential this season, aiming to overcome these obstacles at the 1-mile oval.
