At just 10 years and seven months old, Delhi's Aarit Kapil has achieved a significant milestone by becoming the youngest Indian to earn an International Master (IM) norm. He secured this distinction during an international tournament held in Menorca, Spain, notably drawing against Australian Samuel Asaka in his final round. Earlier in the tournament, Kapil had defeated Kazakhstan's Nogerbek Kazybek, a former world Under-20 champion. He is currently the second-ranked player globally in the Under-11 age group for players born in 2015.
In another significant achievement for Indian chess, Shivika Rohilla has officially become a Woman International Master (WIM). She achieved the required norm after a draw with IM Rudolf Sertic of Croatia in Budapest. Rohilla had been close to achieving this title over the past ten tournaments. She aims to pursue the Woman Grandmaster title next. Rohilla is the third player from Delhi to achieve the WIM title, following Tania Sachdev and Sachi Jain.
