Freshman Laura Nemec and seventh-grader Lerae DeLine are the leading forces for the Mitchell Christian Golden Eagles cross country team as they prepare for the Class B state meet. These young athletes have become the top two girls runners, demonstrating talent and energy.
Nemec, who placed 20th at state last year, has shown significant improvement this season. She secured individual titles at the Mitchell Kernel Invite and the Parker/Marion meet, a runner-up finish at Howard, and a third-place effort at Platte-Geddes. Her most recent achievement was winning the Region 3B meet on October 14 with a time of 19:43.4.
DeLine, in her first high school season, has consistently placed among the top runners. She earned third place at the Parker/Marion meet, fourth at Platte-Geddes, and eleventh at the Region 3B meet with a time of 20:50.3. Coaches note her steady development in pacing and race discipline.
The Golden Eagles aim for a top-six finish at the state meet, building on last year's seventh-place performance. The team includes seniors Amy Henderson and Trudie Hofer, and sophomore Nicole Kleinsasser, all competing at the state level.
