Parkrun Cancelled Indefinitely Amid Capacity and Safety Concerns
15 Nov
Summary
- New Earswick Parkrun cancelled due to "ongoing capacity" issues
- Event attracted 200 participants on average each Saturday
- Complaints about parking disruption and safeguarding incidents led to closure

As of November 15th, 2025, a popular Parkrun event in York has been cancelled indefinitely due to a combination of capacity constraints and safety concerns. The New Earswick Parkrun, which has been taking place at the New Earswick Sports & Social Club since April 2018, has been forced to shut down.
The weekly 5k run had been drawing an average of 200 participants each Saturday, but the club has now stated that the event can no longer continue. The decision was made due to clashing activities during the football season, as well as complaints about parking disruption and safeguarding incidents in the changing rooms.
A spokesperson for the club explained that the combination of these factors led to the difficult choice to cancel the Parkrun indefinitely. The popular community event, which had become a fixture in the local area, will now come to an end, much to the disappointment of its regular participants.
