York City has bolstered its defense by signing Zak Johnson on loan from Premier League club Sunderland. The agreement will see the 21-year-old center-back play for York City until January.
Johnson, who made his debut for Sunderland in the EFL Trophy in 2021 at the age of 16, has accumulated four senior appearances for the Black Cats. His move to York City marks a reunion with manager Stuart Maynard, under whom he previously played during a loan spell at Notts County in League Two.
During the 2023-24 season, Johnson also had loan spells with National League side Hartlepool United and Dundalk in the League of Ireland Premier Division, gaining valuable playing time across different leagues.
