Yaya Toure Makes History in Champions League

Yaya Toure has etched his name in football history as the first African coach to guide a team into the main round of the UEFA Champions League. His current club, Slovan Bratislava, secured this significant achievement on Wednesday by winning their two-legged playoff tie against NK Celje with an aggregate score of 3-2. The former Ivory Coast international took over as head coach in June and has already led the Slovakian champions to four league victories.

Slovan Bratislava's journey to the Champions League main round began in July with victories over Georgian and Swedish opponents in earlier qualifying rounds. Toure, celebrated for his illustrious playing career, was honored with chants during the recent match, recalling his successful tenure with Manchester City in the 2010s. He retired from playing in 2019 after an 18-year career, during which he won numerous accolades, including multiple Premier League titles and four African Footballer of the Year awards.
