Athletics in Zurich experienced a historic night, marked by two new world records and a captivating pole vault competition. Brazil's Alison Dos Santos set a sensational 45.80-second mark in the 400m hurdles, surpassing Karsten Warholm's previous record.
Shortly after, US Olympic champion Masai Russell timed 12.09 seconds in the 100m hurdles, breaking Tobi Amusan's best. Both record-breakers received $80,000 cheques.
The pole vault saw a remarkable showdown where Mondo Duplantis cleared 6.25 meters for victory, with Emmanouil Karalis also vaulting a personal best of 6.20 meters. This marked the first time two athletes surpassed the 6.20m mark.
Switzerland's Audrey Werro delivered a thrilling performance in the 800m, clocking 1:53.70, the third fastest time ever. Emmanuel Wanyonyi also secured a world-leading time of 1:41.76 in the men's 800m, narrowly missing David Rudisha's record.
