Klopp overlooks Juventus star for Nations League
5 Nov
Summary
- Nick Woltemade was not selected for the upcoming Nations League matches.
- Coach Jürgen Klopp cited form and goal threat as reasons for the omission.
- Niclas Füllkrug returns to the national team after a year's absence.
Nick Woltemade, recently voted player of the month at Juventus, has not been selected by national team coach Jürgen Klopp for the upcoming Nations League fixtures. Klopp stated that while Woltemade is on the right track, a slight lack of consistent goal threat influenced the difficult decision. He stressed that this does not mean the door is closed for the player in the future.
In Woltemade's absence, Niclas Füllkrug has been recalled to the squad following an impressive scoring record at Werder Bremen. Füllkrug's return was described as a logical and relatively easy decision for the coaching staff. Other forwards selected include Younes Ebnoutalib and Kai Havertz, who recently became the highest-scoring German player in Premier League history.
Woltemade's international career has seen ups and downs. He has been part of every Germany training camp since his debut in summer 2025, scoring four goals in the final three World Cup qualifiers when Havertz was injured. However, he was part of the team during their World Cup round-of-32 exit and notably missed a penalty in a shootout. He also featured in recent games under Klopp, but squandered a clear scoring chance against Serbia.
