Windies Aim to Reignite Test Fire vs Sri Lanka

West Indies and Sri Lanka will renew their Test rivalry in Antigua starting Thursday, following a disrupted ODI series and a closely contested T20 series. The hosts are eager to improve their World Test Championship (WTC) standing, having lost seven of their last eight matches. Sri Lanka, sitting third in the WTC, aims to strengthen their position for a potential final appearance at Lord's.

Head coach Daren Sammy emphasized growth and identity for the West Indies, acknowledging Sri Lanka's quality. He highlighted the importance of discipline and character for his team, which is currently at the bottom of the WTC table. Sri Lanka's third-place ranking in the WTC is partially due to a recent series win against Bangladesh.

Both Tests will be held at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium, the same venue where the teams drew two matches on placid pitches in 2021. However, current first-class season games suggest pitches offering pace, bounce, and seam movement, which are expected to challenge batters significantly more this time around.

Wicketkeeper-batsman Joshua da Silva is set for a return to the West Indies side after strong domestic performances. He expressed enthusiasm about rejoining the team. The West Indies' fast bowling unit, featuring Alzarri Joseph, Jayden Seales, and Shamar Joseph, is expected to test Sri Lanka's top order. Sri Lanka possesses capable bowlers like Vishwa and Asitha Fernando, and their batting lineup relies on Dhananjaya de Silva, Dinesh Chandimal, and Pathum Nissanka.
