Westwood Skips Santa Anita Handicap

Summary
- Westwood will not race in the Santa Anita Handicap.
- Owners cite distance and race shape as reasons for scratch.
- New target is the New Orleans Classic on March 21.

The promising 4-year-old gelding, Westwood, has been withdrawn from the Grade 1 Santa Anita Handicap. Owners Lee and Susan Searing determined that the 1 ¼-mile race distance and anticipated pace were not favorable for their horse.
Trainer Peter Eurton, who recently took over Westwood's training, noted that the horse performs better at slightly shorter distances. Westwood's next engagement will be the G2 New Orleans Classic on March 21, a race of 1 ⅛ miles to be held at Fair Grounds in Louisiana. This follows a victory in the G2 San Pasqual at 1 1/16 miles.
