Wasim Akram Skips APL, Citing PCB Policy
7 Nov
Summary
- Wasim Akram declined APL mentor role due to PCB policy.
- Pakistani cricketers faced uncertainty over NOCs for the league.
- Mohammad Amir signed by Kandahar Warriors as a UK national.
Former Pakistan captain Wasim Akram has reportedly turned down a mentorship offer for the Afghanistan Premier League (APL). This decision aligns with the Pakistan Cricket Board's (PCB) policy, which has refrained from issuing No-Objection Certificates (NOCs) to Pakistani cricketers for the tournament. Akram's choice reflects adherence to the board's stance.
Despite Akram's decision, other Pakistan-linked figures have secured roles. Azhar Mahmood was appointed head coach for Team Paktia, and Waqar Younis will serve as its ambassador. Notably, Mohammad Amir, holding a UK passport, was drafted by the Kandahar Warriors after registering as a UK national.
More than 30 Pakistani cricketers registered for the draft. However, none were selected, reportedly due to diplomatic tensions and the PCB's reluctance to issue NOCs. This uncertainty has cast a shadow over the participation of many Pakistani players in the league.
