China's Wang Xinyu has advanced to the third round of the Australian Open after a dramatic comeback victory. She triumphed over 24th seed Jelena Ostapenko with a final score of 4-6, 6-4, 6-4, in a match lasting two hours and 20 minutes.
Wang, currently the world No. 46, found herself a set and a break down before mounting a spirited rally. She is now the only Chinese player remaining in the singles draw at Melbourne Park, following the earlier defeats of her male compatriots, Shang Juncheng and Wu Yibing.
The 24-year-old's path to victory involved winning four consecutive games in the second set to level the match. She will next compete against Czech 13th seed Linda Noskova, who also secured her progression to the next round.
