A 19-year-old skier from Norfolk, who has been visually impaired since birth, is preparing for his debut at the Paralympic Winter Games. Sam Cozens, diagnosed with nystagmus at four months old, will compete in slalom and giant slalom events.
Cozens has been skiing since the age of five and will rely on a guide, Adam Hall, with whom he has developed a strong rapport over four to five years. His condition causes involuntary eye movements, limiting peripheral vision and depth perception, making him sensitive to light and shadows on the slopes.
He is one of 25 athletes representing ParalympicsGB. While others encourage him to enjoy the experience, Cozens is focused on achieving a top 10 position, with a medal remaining his ultimate aspiration. His mother highlighted the significant effort and dedication involved in supporting his dream.
