Following a weekend of unprecedented upsets in college football, a 23-year-old fan known as Jake created a viral AI-generated video. The 19-second clip humorously places prominent college football coaches, including Kalen DeBoer, Kirby Smart, Steve Sarkisian, Curt Cignetti, and Marcus Freeman, into an NPR Tiny Desk Concert performance. They are depicted singing and playing instruments during a rendition of Charlie Wilson's 1982 hit "Outstanding." This song has become an anthem for meme videos about "past-their-prime" athletes.
The video took Jake approximately two hours to produce using the Higgsfield AI platform and motion-transfer models. Since its release, it has achieved over 2 million views on TikTok and 2 million on Instagram, with up to 6 million impressions on X. The fan intended the video to be a source of amusement and unity, especially after a Saturday where five of the top seven-ranked teams lost, a rare occurrence in regular-season history. The AI-generated content has been praised for its humor and quality, even converting some skeptics of AI technology.
