A significant collection of vintage football shirts, personally curated by the late Matt Ashton, will be auctioned in Shropshire next month. The sale is dedicated to raising funds for cancer charities.
Ashton, a devoted Shrewsbury Town fan and renowned football photographer, passed away in 2025 after a battle with a brain tumour. His passion for the club is reflected in his extensive collection.
The auction will feature shirts spanning decades, from as early as 1979. Notable items include kits worn by players such as Dave Edwards, Grant Holt, Jermaine Grandison, and Mark Atkins, as well as classic club designs.
Shaun Owen of 12th Man Retro in Shrewsbury is organizing the auction, which is scheduled for 11 April. Owen highlighted the pristine condition of the shirts, emphasizing their value as "art" rather than mere memorabilia.
The proceeds from the sale will directly benefit cancer charities, offering a poignant way to remember Ashton's legacy and support a crucial cause.
