Vinícius Jr. experienced a dramatic turn of events during Real Madrid's match against Villarreal on Saturday. Initially finding the net to seemingly double his team's lead, the goal was disallowed following a VAR review. The referee's review determined that Vinícius Jr. had committed a foul by pulling an opponent's hair earlier in the play.
This hair-pulling incident not only nullified the goal but also resulted in Vinícius Jr. being shown a red card. The dismissal left Real Madrid playing with ten men at the Santiago Bernabéu, complicating their efforts in the LaLiga title race. The winger had entered the match as a substitute and his sending off adds to his personal struggles, having scored only once in his initial seven league appearances this season.
