Vikings Cut Big DT Signings After One Year
5 Mar
Summary
- Vikings to release DT Jonathan Allen after one season.
- Javon Hargrave also expected to be cut by the team.
- Team faces $17M+ in dead money from releasing Allen.

The Minnesota Vikings are reportedly set to part ways with both defensive tackles Jonathan Allen and Javon Hargrave, less than a year after signing them to substantial contracts. Neither veteran defensive lineman made the anticipated impact during the 2025 season.
Releasing Jonathan Allen, who signed a three-year, $51 million deal last March, is expected to create $6.5 million in cap space. However, the move would leave the Vikings with over $17 million in dead cap. Allen, 31, played over 800 snaps last season, recording 3.5 sacks and seven tackles for loss, but his performance metrics, including a 53.2 PFF grade, were below expectations.
Javon Hargrave is also anticipated to be released. With both players likely departing, the Vikings will need to address their defensive tackle position. They currently have Jalen Redmond, Levi Drake Rodriguez, and Tyrion Ingram-Dawkins on the roster, but may look to free agency or the 2026 NFL Draft, where prospects like Caleb Banks and Peter Woods could be targets.
