Olympic Champ Carl Banned for Doping
2 Apr
Summary
- Cross-country skier Victoria Carl suspended for 18 months.
- The athlete tested positive for clenbuterol in April.
- Carl claims unawareness of banned substance in medication.

Olympic cross-country skiing champion Victoria Carl has been suspended for 18 months by the German Anti-Doping Agency (NADA) after testing positive for clenbuterol. This ruling, issued by the German Sports Arbitration Court (DIS), takes into account her provisional suspension since last spring, extending her ban until November 25.
Carl, who tested positive on April 3, attributed the result to a prescribed cough medication she was unaware contained a forbidden substance. While the NADA sought a two-year ban, a resolution agreement was reached, though the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) pushed for a sports law settlement. The German Ski Federation (DSV) views the ruling as reasonable. Carl will be eligible to compete again next season, including the 2027 World Championships.
