The University of Vermont Catamounts have captured their second consecutive America East Conference championship, defeating the University of Maine Black Bears 61-43 on Friday night. This decisive victory earns Vermont an automatic qualification for the NCAA Tournament.
Leading the top-seeded Catamounts was Keira Hanson, who scored an impressive 23 points, sinking nine of thirteen shots including three 3-pointers. Malia Lenz also played a crucial role, achieving a double-double with 13 points and 14 rebounds. Nikola Priede added 14 points, eight rebounds, and two blocks to Vermont's strong offensive and defensive performance.
The second-seeded Black Bears, aiming for their 11th NCAA Tournament appearance, were led by Adrianna Smith's 22 points and 15 rebounds. Despite Smith's efforts, Maine struggled offensively, hitting only 8 of 34 shots compared to Vermont's more efficient shooting.
