9 Jan
Summary
- Goalie Carter Hart sustained a left leg injury during the first period.
- Akira Schmid replaced Hart after Boone Jenner scored for Columbus.
- Hart was recently acquitted of sexual assault charges in July.

Vegas Golden Knights starting goalie Carter Hart sustained an injury to his left leg during the first period on January 9, 2026, against the Columbus Blue Jackets. The injury occurred while Columbus was in possession, forcing Hart to remain in the crease. Boone Jenner capitalized on the situation, scoring to give the Blue Jackets a 1-0 lead at 8:24 of the period.
Akira Schmid was brought in to replace Hart. NHL rules stipulate that play does not stop for an injured player if the opposing team has possession, unless the injury is clearly severe. The Golden Knights are already dealing with the absence of Adin Hill, who has been out since October 20, 2025, with his own left leg injury, though he was nearing a return.
Hart, signed by Vegas in October 2025, made his first appearance of the season on December 2, 2025. Notably, Hart was among five 2018 Canadian world junior hockey players acquitted of sexual assault charges in July 2025. He was the first of the group to sign an NHL contract after the league allowed players to sign starting October 15, 2025, and play from December 1, 2025. Hart signed a two-year, $4 million deal.
